Jun 14,2024 | FUNLAB-Cheriko

Hey gamers, Cheriko here :).

Sometimes there're some beginners ask: If I want to start my Nintendo Journey, what's the difference between Nintendo Switch models? And which is the best Nintendo Switch model for me?

Now there're 3 models of Nintendo Switch (technically, 4 models). To help you understand the difference between each kind of switch, I can give you a very brief introduction to them with some pros and cons, based on my personal understanding.

You can refer to this article and decide which nintendo switch model do you prefer with your own preferences and needs, because the right one is the best.

Normal Switch

Well… Just the normal default model.

A little truth: When the Nintendo Switch was first released, it was criticized for its high power consumption.

But don’t worry, now the new Nintendo Switches that you can buy are all the battery upgrade version.

If you don't have much special needs, this normal Nintendo Switch should be the best model for you.

Switch Lite

The difference between Switch Lite is Thtat, it’s actually a completely handheld model of Nintendo Switch, so every changes for make it more like a handheld game console.

It could be the best or the worst Nintendo Switch model depends on your needs, since it has much difference with normal Switch. So you must pay attention to these points:

Pros

  1. Cheaper obviously.
  2. Smaller that means easier to carry.
  3. Good looking, not joking I love their colors a lot.
  4. Buttons are soft (that depends you like this type or not).

Cons

  1. Cannot share your joycon to others because it don't gives you joycon.
  2. Cannot connect to your TV.
  3. No HD thrumble.
  4. The battery consumption is faster.

Fun fact: you still can connect other controllers to your Switch Lite with blue tooth, such as Firefly pro controllers.

Nintendo Switch Lite

Switch OLED

It does't have much appearance difference with Nintendo Switch, because it's a performance upgrade version. But it's hard to say better or not, because the point it upgraded might not you want…

Pros:

  1. Better touch.
  2. Better game graphic.
  3. More easy using details.
  4. The battery consumption is slower.

Cons:

  1. More expensive obviously.
  2. The screen is at risk of burn.
  3. No improvement in computing performance.
  4. If you use TV mode very usual, that make no meaning.

Summary

The fact is that, which one should you choose is definitely depends on your own situation.

  1. If you don’t have any special requirement, normal Switch is enough.
  2. If you don’t have much money (or friends lol), and not very interested in TV play, Switch Lite is a good choice.
  3. If you don’t mind the money, really want some better game scene, and don’t play TV mode very often, you can try Switch OLED.

After you make your decision, you can also take a look at FUNLAB's products to pair with your Nintendo Switch. Our Luminous Joypad can be used for both Switch and Switch OLED(Strictly speaking, Switch Lite is also). You probably also need a Switch carrying case for on-the-go play, please check :).
