Unrevealed Details About Switch 2: New Buttons, Features? Release Date?

Mar 14,2025 | FUNLAB-Cheriko

Nintendo Switch 2 TV mode

Nintendo Switch 2 rumors: Larger screen, magnetic Joy-Con, DLSS support, 4K output. Possible Mario Kart 9 launch. Expected May-June release, priced 300−300−350.

When Nintendo first unveiled the Switch 2 in January, the company stated that more details would be announced during the April 2nd Direct presentation. With less than a month left until the promised date, fans are eagerly awaiting the official arrival of the new Switch. To help everyone stay up to speed, we’ve compiled Nintendo’s confirmed details and aggregated unverified rumors. Read on for more!

The Switch 2 retains the hybrid handheld/console design of its predecessor but features a larger overall size. It includes two USB-C ports (top and bottom), an adjustable rear kickstand with a broader range of angles, and a confirmed "all-black" color scheme with iconic red and blue accents on the joysticks. The expanded screen size has led to slightly larger Joy-Con controllers, which now attach magnetically instead of using the original sliding rail mechanism. The right Joy-Con adds a second button below the joystick—one is a Home button, while the other’s function remains unknown. FCC filings confirm Wi-Fi 6E and NFC support, and Nintendo has officially stated that the Switch 2 will be backward-compatible with first-gen Switch games.

New Sensor Turns Joy-Con Into a Mouse?

Before the Switch 2’s debut trailer, accessory manufacturers leaked that the new Joy-Con would include an additional sensor on its inner side. While Nintendo’s official video didn’t highlight this, it did show a Joy-Con sliding across a flat surface. This hints at mouse-like functionality, which could benefit FPS games. (Is this a reverse nod to the Lenovo Legion Go?)

Screen Specifications?

The Switch 2’s screen is larger than the original, with most rumors suggesting at least 8 inches and a 1080p resolution. While clarity in handheld mode should improve, battery life impacts remain unclear. The panel is likely LCD, though OLED or Mini-LED rumors persist—possibly reserved for future upgrades, mirroring the original Switch’s release strategy.

Performance Boost & NVIDIA DLSS Support?

Nintendo and NVIDIA are expected to collaborate again, with leaks pointing to a Tegra T239 chip and a GPU supporting DLSS for upscaled visuals. Reports also mention an 8-core Cortex-A78AE CPU, 8GB or 12GB of RAM, and 64GB of eMMC storage. Most leaks agree on 4K output, though it’s unclear whether this is native 4K or upscaled.

Launch Title: Mario Kart 9?

Many outlets predict Mario Kart 9 will headline the Switch 2’s launch lineup, a theory seemingly hinted at in the reveal trailer. Given the series’ popularity, this would be a safe bet. Nintendo may also showcase games leveraging new features like the rumored "mouse mode."

Release Date & Price?

After the April 2nd Direct, Nintendo plans global Switch 2 demo events. This suggests a release window of May or June. Pricing is rumored to be between $300 and $350—fans would cheer a $300 repeat, but a slight increase seems plausible.
