Accessory Makers Have Leaked More Information About Nintendo Switch 2?!

Jan 10,2025 | FUNLAB-Cheriko

Leak from GENKI on CES 1

Summary of nintendo switch 2 leaks in recent days, including information on the size, power, and performance of Nintendo Switch 2 and the Joycon, dock, and more!

From Maintaining Mystery to the "Underwear Defense" Battle

A week has already passed since 2025 began, and Nintendo has still not made any official announcements about its next-generation console (hereafter referred to as the Switch 2).

Leaks from GENKI on CES

While Nintendo remains tight-lipped, accessory makers are clearly losing their patience. At the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show (CES), numerous new product leaks have all but exposed the "underwear" of the Switch 2 to players around the world.

At several accessory vendors' booths, catalogs and models of charging docks, controllers, and protective cases have already been clearly labeled with the "Switch 2" branding, giving a rough preview of the console's design.

One accessory company, GENKI, even displayed a model of the Switch 2 at the event. Not only did they showcase a new magnetic attachment feature for the Joy-Con, which replaces the traditional sliding rail, but they also thoughtfully provided a standard Switch to compare the size differences between the two generations of consoles.

Leaks From Amazon

Meanwhile, another accessory vendor listed a Switch 2 protective case on Amazon, with product images showing details like the stand and the connection methods for the controller—details that match GENKI's displayed model.

Joycon 2's Function

More importantly, with the release of GENKI's product render video, the details in the footage have begun to align with other recent leaks about the Switch 2.

The video's side-angle shots of the Joy-Con match a leaked image from just days ago. This isn't the first time the Switch 2's controller has been leaked. A high-resolution image from a Chinese forum, "Mario Bar," showed a clear optical component inside a hole on the Joy-Con's side, sparking many speculations from online users.

Reddit users analyzed the significance of this optical component, suggesting it could be related to the "innovative feature" that has been a hallmark of every Nintendo console.

The optical component might serve a function similar to the optical sensor in a computer mouse, meaning that the Joy-Con could potentially be used as a mouse when placed side down on a surface. This pointer-like functionality could become a major feature of the Switch 2, aimed at FPS games or other titles that rely on mouse-based controls.

More Leaks about Switch 2

Just a day before CES opened, the "Digital Foundry" YouTube channel confirmed another rumor regarding the Switch 2's motherboard, claiming it was "basically true." The key piece of information was that Nintendo had chosen Samsung's 8nm process for the chip.

However, Digital Foundry also criticized this chip choice as a poor one, noting that even in 2020, it would be considered an outdated process. Given Nintendo's usual approach, it's unlikely that the Switch 2 will see significant chip upgrades in the next few years. Still, they believe Switch 2's performance will likely match that of the standard PS4.

Around the same time, further leaks about the Switch 2's charging dock were also revealed. Aside from the labeled input and output voltage and current in the images, the leaker also noted that the charging dock comes with a 60W power adapter.

Summary

From the chip specifications to the new console's design, from the charging power to the new features, the combined efforts of leakers and accessory vendors have gradually unveiled several layers of mystery surrounding the Switch 2. When pieced together, we're nearly able to see a complete picture of Nintendo's new console.

What remains puzzling, however, is that despite the flood of leaks over the past few days, Nintendo itself has remained silent, leading many to wonder if this silence means the "big announcement" fans have been waiting for is finally on the horizon.
