At 6:00 PM Beijing Time on April 23, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa issued a statement addressing the supply situation for the upcoming Switch 2 console, revealing that Japan alone received 2.2 million applications for the first lottery round—far surpassing the company’s initial expectations.
Due to limited production capacity, the first batch of consoles scheduled for delivery via the My Nintendo Store on June 5 will not meet all demand. As a result, some applicants will inevitably be unsuccessful when the first-round lottery results are announced on April 24.
Furukawa stated that unsuccessful applicants will automatically be entered into a second lottery round. Meanwhile, Nintendo is ramping up production and plans to expand availability through physical stores and e-commerce platforms gradually. The president apologized for the supply shortages and pledged to continue prioritizing production to meet player demand as soon as possible.
